Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to choose from an abundance of agencies when searching for your next opportunity. Follow our top tips to ensure you’re looking in the right place and heading in the right direction.
1. Check Their Reputation
It’s important to consider the reputation of the agency as how they are perceived by their community could impact your job prospects. Find out what other candidates and clients are saying about the agency through Google reviews, Facebook reviews or even Glassdoor and Indeed. You can see our reviews on our Facebook, Google & Website. We pride our selves on the fabulous feedback we receive day in and day out.
2. Consider the Agency Niche
Research what roles they specialise in. Some agencies will specialise in one or two industries, whilst others may specialise in many areas. Consider their roles and if they are applicable for your skills and experience. You don’t want to lose time and energy on applying for a role that doesn’t suit your CV. We specialise in Education and Care sectors and so we will only hire candidates with specific qualifications and experience in these industries.
3. Location and Network
Ensure the agency is working in a location and network that suits you. Some agencies are UK Wide whereas others will work in regional locations. Check the location of their advertised jobs, or seek out their network area via their website. If you’re still unsure if they cover your area, give them a call and see if there is a demand for work in your location and if they have anything available. We’re South Wales based in the UK, our roles rarely reach outside of this region currently so we ensure we note locations on all of our advertisements and social media so attract local candidates.
4. What Are Their Compliance Procedures
Depending on the niche of industry, ensuring you’re compliant for your role can vary in process. As we work in Education & Care, we have very strict compliance and safeguarding procedures. We are APSCo+ Compliant which means we are annually audited on our procedures. It provides surety to our clients that all of our candidates are suitably qualified and experienced when stepping into their positions. Not all Teaching Agencies have such rigorous compliance which can often end in unhappy candidates and schools.
5. Check Their Terms
Agencies all work differently when it comes to employee contracts and terms, and it again depends on the industry niche. Ensure you check for terms like:
- – Holiday Pay
- – Payroll Fees (Due to Umbrella Payroll)
- – Maternity and Paternity Terms
- – Pay Increases due to Long-Term work
Your agency should be able to provide a detailed over view of their employee terms with the type of roles you are considering. It should be noted that terms for a zero-hour contract will be different to a permanent or long-term contract. So make sure you’re reading thoroughly through any paperwork you’re provided.
